Narwhal Art Projects has an absolutely brilliant exhibition with Nicholas Aoki taking place this month. As one of the founding members of Team Macho, Nicholas has been exhibiting with Magic Pony and Narwhal for the past five years however this will be his first solo venture and we are honored to be a part of this significant moment.
goodnight; sweet, hearts. opens August 13 and runs until September 20. The opening reception will be this Thursday August 13 from 7-10pm. Nicholas will be in attendance. Coincidentally it is his birthday!
Summoning the essence of heroic tradition found within work such as the Illiad and The Odyssey, goodnight: sweet, hearts. explores the modern day struggle between skepticism and belief, mortality and philosophy. Nicholas Aoki creates an epic narrative composed of Gods and mortals seeking passage, testing fate and enduring trials amongst an ensemble of anthropomorphic archetypes. Through each atmospheric landscape there is a constant transformation and the inevitable existential questioning of life, death, faith and the fantastic ideal.
Nicholas Aoki is an artist and illustrator working in Toronto, Canada. A graduate of Sheridan College’s illustration program, Aoki began producing work within the Canadian art collective Team Macho. Since graduating in 2002, he has exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Bordeaux, San Francisco, Montreal, Toronto and Amsterdam. A medium intrinsically associated with pre-digital illustration and automobile painting, Aoki wields the airbrush with a painterly sensibility, applying watercolour and acrylic with precise delicacy. goodnight: sweet, hearts. is Nicholas Aoki’s premiere solo exhibition.
Nicholas Aoki is available for illustration and commerical work through Lunch.
Lunch is thrilled to welcome sociMedia – pronounced so-shee-media to the network. sociMedia are creative developers – they’re well versed in what it takes to build a community and experts at building applications. Their experience in creative, video and programming makes them a fabulous addition to the network. I first had the pleasure of working with one of their principals, Adrian while I was at Fastvibe, many moons ago. Adrian went on to partner with Adam, and Sean to found sociMedia. When you talk to them about creative or development, they get it. They know what it takes to create something that a) works and b) performs. A rare thing in the development world. sociMedia joins Pixelpusher, Indusblue, and Stem Limited as a part of the creative development roster at Lunch.
